Meditation is  technique that increases physical relaxation, calmness as well as improves overall health and well-being. In order to learn how to meditate properly, you must be able to focus your attention and become mindful of your own thoughts and sensations.

Techniques on how to meditate properly can be grouped into two: Mindfulness meditation and  Concentrative meditation.

Concentrative is the type of meditation which focuses on your breath, an image, or a sound (mantra). the simplest position for concentrative meditation is to sit quietly then focus on your breath. This position is said to have a direct link between breathing and state of the mind. When a person is anxious, frightened, or distracted, the breath will be shallow and rapid. But when the mind is calm, focused, and composed, the breath will be slow, deep, and regular.

As you stay focused on your breath, your state of mind will become focused in the rhythm of breathing in and breathing out. Your breathing then will become deeper and slower. The mind is more aware and tranquil.

On the hand, mindfulness meditation opens your attention to different sensations as well as feelings, thoughts,  images, smells,  sounds,  and others without becoming involved in thinking about them. You have to sit quietly and witness the things that go through your mind without reacting or becoming involved. This method helps in achieving a calmer, clearer, and more non-reactive state of mind.
